Cut sugar, exercise, quit smoking, eat vegetables, take supplements, avoid stress, sleep well... Every day we are bombarded with information on ways to live longer, healthier, and happier. Modern medicine treats our body almost like a machine gear; preaching to lubricate it, wipe off the rust, and tighten every nut. But dear friend, a vital ingredient is missing in these technical prescriptions: Food for the soul and that magical, sacred contact of human with human and nature.
Look, those "cold" numbers rising from the most rational laboratories today confirm a truth that our ancient wisdom has whispered for centuries; the reality that "human consists of meaning": Creativity and social connection are not just "leisure activities," but the very condition of biological vitality. That vast sea of data we call epidemiology screams this to us: The heart of someone singing in a choir is refreshed not just by notes, but by a miraculous rhythm. A mind that sits before a sketchbook escapes the gnawing claw of cortisol that rots the body from within and reaches a healing tranquility.
So, where will we seek this talisman? It is thought that art is the luxury of only high-ceilinged galleries and velvet-curtained operas. No! Healing is hidden in the narrow, seemingly suffocating corridors of daily life. Healing cannot be confined only to rooms or workshops. The soul sometimes needs a horizon line, the sound of a wave. That deep peace we feel while looking at the blue waters of the sea is not just nostalgia, but a neurological washing. The regular rhythm of waves hitting the shore cloaks the noisiest corners of our brain in the silence of a sanctuary. The sound of water brings back that primordial harmony the mind lost in modern chaos. Looking at the sea is actually looking at our own inner sea, that deep and calm "self." The rustle of foam heard while walking alone on the beach is more effective than the suggestion of the most skilled psychologist; because that sound is the pulse of the universe.
Let's continue. For example, when you return home from work in the evening tired and weary, with the burden of the world on your shoulders, instead of pressing that numbing, mind-neutering button of the television, pick up a pen. Keep a diary; write just two lines, pour the sediment of the day onto paper. You will see that that brushstroke or that half-finished verse will regulate the flow of blood in your veins. Modern life has turned us into passive "consumers"; whereas the healing in human nature is "producing." Be assured that the little creativity you exhibit in the kitchen while trying a new recipe, a new flavor with the ingredients at hand is more valuable than the most advanced laboratory experiment. Because "you" are there, your personality and your will are there.
And what about that forgotten "human" voice? A sincere "hello" that used to echo in neighborhoods and refresh the soul has today been sacrificed to the "notification" sound of a smartphone. Whereas echoing in a friend's smile, melting in the warmth of a conversation grants that most precious medicine not sold in pharmacies, namely the "sense of belonging." Breathing the excitement on a theater stage at the same time as that stranger next to you gives your cells a festive atmosphere. Loneliness is the most insidious, most despotic cancer of the modern age, and its only antidote is society, art, an aesthetic interest.
We see that art is not just a fantasy to be confined to museum walls. It is a need like bread, like water. The conversation in the grounds of a plain coffee drunk with a friend is more effective than the most expensive vitamin pill. Because human is not just a heap of protein and carbohydrates; human is that fine balance between matter and meaning.
In conclusion; do not withhold the care you show to your body from your soul. Tomorrow morning, don't just walk for your body; add a whistle to that walk that will feed your soul, get stuck on the architecture of a flower on the road. Open the cover of a dusty instrument, stop by an exhibition and kneel before a canvas, or write a heartfelt letter to a friend. Because life is not just breathing in and out, but the cause of transforming that breath into a work of art, that transient life into an aesthetic integrity.
Let's forget those cliché classic advices for a while. Cut sugar, exercise, quit smoking, eat vegetables, take supplements, avoid stress, sleep well... Let's put these at the top of this list: spending sincere time with loved ones, engaging with fine arts as much as possible, and devoting more time to the sea and blue waters. We must fill our heart's saddlebag with the warm smiles of our loved ones; we must accumulate the most secluded, most intimate moments of time like jewels in our hearts. We must gently surrender ourselves to the magical touch of fine arts that wipes the rust off the soul, be reborn in brushstrokes or in the depths of verses. And finally, we must turn our face to the blue waters, the mirror of eternity; listening to the free and deep song of the sea, we must draw the peace left by the waves on the shore into the depths of our soul.
